Some Q & A

- How come no mention of all-time greats Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Cy Young, Walter Johnson, etc. Answer: They did their significant work before 1920

- What about the Negro League Hall of Famers like Louis Santop and Jose Mendez. Answer: Like their white counterparts above a good portion of their careers were prior to 1920. In addition many of their accumulated statistics were in places and leagues not considered Major Leagues.

- Don’t Lou Brock, Catfish Hunter, and Jack Morris belong in HOMA? Answer: Based on either pure volume numbers and/or playoff performance these guys might be considered Hall of Famers. In fact, the current revision of this website does now consider championship series performance and provides a HOMA-C score based on that additional metric. Just as cumulative WAA/WAR is considered to have less relavance for greatness than Peak WAA/WAR, related volume stats are also less important. To be frank though, the biggest surprise for me in doing this project is that Lou Brock did not qualify for HOMA.

- Some fairly short career NGLer’s get some pretty high scores. Is that fair? Answer: NGLers face the same 10% per season penalties for less than 8 peak years in the two qualifying HOMA categories. Surely the derived peak WAA projections have a measure of uncertainty. At the same time how many of those low value non-qualifying seasons could have eventually resulted in higher WAA scores?

- You are very mean to PED users. Answer: Don’t blame me. I’m only trying to somehow belatedly even up the playing field using some type of appropriate deduction in calculating their HOMA score. A 20% peak WAA reduction seems about right.
