All of these players had 20% deducted from their Wins Against Average (WAA) peak career scores for either proven or strongly indicated useage of PED’s for at least several months during regular competition. Another considered indicator was a noted statistical improvement at the time of suspicion, particularly at a later career age. While an actual deduction can never be precisely calculated it is equally important that their unfair advantages somehow be accounted for. The 20% figure was chosen in particular in referencing Barry Bond’s 73 home run season. With the penalty his final total figure would sit at a little under 60 home runs.
Even with these penalties many of these players career still qualify for enshrinement in the Hall of Maximum Achievement. Several were extraordinary players and their career performances cannot be ignored.
